 Weekly Beadditudes with Dara

The Chosen Name
Yes, the Sun Doll finally has a name. Firstly, high five to all you creative name suggesting beaders out there! There were some really amazing suggestions that would have given the doll all kinds of substantial meaning. In the end I decided to go with the one that spoke closest to my heart.

The name is "Oh Happy Day." It was suggested by Cindy Taylor, among a few others she tossed my way… and I love the name for a few reasons. First, because this doll just oozes happiness in its face, in a content, peaceful, joyful expression. It’s the kind of happiness where you think, “oh… Oh Happy Daylife is GOOD!” and you feel that things are falling into place. Secondly, because of my own name. Most people see the spelling of “Dara” and they think of the common pronunciation “Darrah” or “Dare-ah”, but my Mom and Dad named me after a friend who’s name they loved, and chose to pronounce it the same way she did, “Day-rah”. Long A. So all my life I’ve corrected people, everyone from the over the counter pharmacist to teachers to neighbors, and so on. Not a big deal, really, but if it's someone I’m going to encounter semi-frequently, I’d like them to say my name correctly. I’ve had a lifetime of Daria, Dana, Donna, Deena, Darla, etc. Usually if the name sounds remotely like a D name then I perk up. Only a tiny handful of people in my immediate-close-to-the-heart life call me “Day”. In fact, if I recall right, my sister Diana was the first one to do that, when I was a teenager. In our adult years, she got her kids to start calling me Aunt Day Day, and it has stuck. If someone calls me Day today, it reminds me of Diana, who now resides in Heaven, chasing her own shooting stars for the last 3 years.

So Cindy Taylor… you must e-mail me in order to make arrangements to get your fun beady prize as soon as possible! And thanks to everyone for participating. Your suggestions meant a lot to me!
