Last week we had a fun little contest with our “Bead Stash” bag as a prize for the first 10 correct answers. We had 27 correct answers and everyone was so excited about the bag we decided to give one to all the winners! My thinking was that I didn’t want to disappoint any of our customers! A lot of you said you had never won anything before. That made me wonder… had I ever won anything? At first I thought not really, but then I remembered the first and only time I went to a casino. I was visiting my daughter, Sarah, who lives in the Phoenix area. She took me to a nearby casino and we played the slots. I staked her for $100 and did the same for me. Once I had won $100, I tucked it into my pocket. I figured whatever I did from then on, didn’t cost me anything. I ended up with $500 in winnings! Now I’m almost afraid to go back as I might expect this every time (my husband says I’m a wide eyed optimist and he’s right). Optimism isn’t necessarily a good thing when it comes to gambling.
Winning at gambling isn’t really the same as winning a contest. I did win a radio contest in 1967, when I was 14 years old. I got to go by bus to Boston with the other winne rs to see a Beatles concert! We were way, way in the back of the crowd at Boston Gardens. I remember I wore a cotton shirtwaist dress (anyone remember those?) and a girdle!! I think it was the only time I ever wore one. I guess I was concerned about something that jiggled, but at 14 I probably only weighed 110 pounds so it couldn’t have been that bad. The reason I remember what I was wearing was that a nice boy asked me if I wanted to sit up on his shoulders so I could see better and I was panicked to think he might feel that I had a girdle on! Back then of course, I probably also had on pantyhose and a slip so it wasn’t quite as risqué as it sounds but at age 14 everything to do with the opposite sex is so confusing.
But that’s another subject! If you want one of the “bead stash” bags they are now online. We will be adding a few more beading goodies like t shirts and mouse pads in the next few weeks. I hope you like them! |
