I love it when readers email me about my blogs! I was so delighted when Jules from Beverly Massachusetts emailed me after last week's blog and said she was at the same Beatles' concert I attended! Not only that but she had her own girdle wearing experience to relate! Something about a dance, a boy and a question about her being bulletproof! I'm sure others in the upstairs office here thought I was off my rocker, I laughed so hard.
You know how you think you know what someone looks like from dealing with them on the phone or hearing them on the radio? Deb is our mail order department manager. She had a call from a regular customer the other day who mentioned that she bet she knew exactly what Deb looked like just from getting to know her on the phone. She said Deb was 5'10", blond, medium length hair, polished and dressed in a suit. Deb is a doll but that doesn't describe her at all! In fact, she is 5'2" with long brunette hair and as I look at her today, she is in jeans, a white long sleeve t-shirt and s neakers. In her words, a "short New England grandmother." Believe me, she's a young grandmother! So here is Deb, pictured above. If you call the store or mail order, she usually will answer the phone, at least on weekdays. She is a beautiful lady, down to earth, a fantastic beader and teaches a lot of our bead classes. (The stuff I have nightmares about doing!) Her work is gorgeous. In fact, she runs the Bead Challenges and Round Robins we showcase on our website. Here are pictures of a couple of past classes she did. Gorgeous stuff!! I would like her to pick my name at Christmas every year!
Deb's mom, Daphne (pictured below), works for us as well keeping our beads in the back stock room in good order, counting out little pieces and even doing stranding at home. Deb's Dad strands too! To complete the picture, Deb's sister Dara (pictured at right) worked for us when our store was about 600 square feet small. She moved to California to be with her soon to be hubby several years ago and then sold to bead stores out there for us until son Vinny came along. I tried to tell her being a Mom wasn't so great and she'd miss the beads and want to come crawling back but she chose Vinny over us and beads (at least for now!).
I suppose I'll have to post a picture of me sometime soon. I wonder what you guys think I look like. Am I a redhead with a gap in my front teeth and a bubble hairdo? Come to think of it, at one point in my life I've been all those things but not all at once and none apply at the moment. Email me and whoever guesses the closest will get one of our cool mouse pads with our beads on it! It has to be someone who doesn't know me though. I really want to hear what you guys think, at least I think I do! |
