Finished Shell and Crystal necklace
Champagne Art Deco
Button Necklace
Designed by Kristin Burgess

These Mother-of-pearl shell squares are just the perfect match with our new glass buttons.  The detail on this square floral style is just fabulous!  The goldtone top finish is mimicked throughout this necklace by using our vintage metal spacers.  The saucer and heishi are my two favorites and you can't beat the price!  One strand of our Ceylon Swarovski in a vintage cut (limited stock) makes this piece an instant collectors item.    Order now before these old parts are gone!

This project is great for all levels!  Stringing and crimping are involved with this project.   This necklace is 25 inches long.  One strand of Ceylon Swarovski and one package of Golden Shadow Swarovski are needed.  One package each of the vintage metals is plenty leaving many leftovers to play with!  One strand of the mother-of-pearl in the lime and one square glass button is also necessary.  Two crimps and two crimp covers are used to help to attach the button and create the loop to make the clasp set complete.

Step 1:

With a clean work area prepared, make small piles of each of the beads used in the materials box.   Start by attaching the button to the end of 3 feet of softflex.  To attach the button first string a crimp onto the line, then enter button, then go back through crimp (catches the button in the loop of softflex).  Draw the crimp close to the button with 1/4" of back track.  Using the standard size crimper tool, crimp the crimp bead securly.  The end part of the crimper tool (lemon shape) closes the crimp cover over the crimp which produces a cleaner finish.

Step 2:

close up of stringing Ceylon crystalThe fine softflex works great for this project as it is very strong yet
thin enough to pick up the metal heishi easily.   You may need to trim tail if the beads will not fit over your back track of softflex.  Start by stringing 15 metal heishi,  1 metal saucer,  1 small crystal, 1 shell square, 1 small crystal, 1 metal saucer, 2 metal heishi, 1 metal saucer, 1 large crystal, 1 metal saucer, 2 metal heishi, 1 metal saucer, 1 small crystal, 1 shell square, and repeat pattern until you have threaded a total of 10 shell squares onto the softflex.

Step 3:

With ten shell squares on the softflex, now thread 1 small crystal,
1 metal saucer, 4 metal heishi, 1 crimp bead and lastly 46 metal
heishi.  The last 46 metal heishi added make up the loop for the
button to slip through to complete the 'toggle' clasp.  Thread the
remaining softflex back through the crimp bead (will form a large
loop).   You will LOVE how easy this clasp is to function!
By holding the crimp in one hand and the remaining softflex in the
other hand you can pull apart to adjust the tension in the necklace.
You will want the beads to sit comfortably next to each other, as
well as closing any gaps of exposed softflex in the piece, before
crimping the final crimp bead.   After crimping the final crimp cut
away the leftover piece of softflex then use the end of the crimper
tool to add the crimp cover.

NOTE:  Who doesn't LOVE leftovers?!  Leftovers include many metal parts and 1 large crystal, a bunch of the small crystals and 7 shell squares.   There are enough leftover components to make a funky bracelet (just need another button or alternative clasp) or a matching pair of earrings!
Enjoy!
