Rivet Earrings:
Mixed Metal Flower Drops
Designed by Ashley Bunting
Rivets! I love rivets. I was a bit skeptical of this new rivet tool. I am all about old school hand made rivets, but this tool is AWESOME! It makes riveting and piercing metal so quick and easy. This technique lends it's self incredibly well to our vintage metal and lucite components. Mixing matte metal flowers and raw metal pieces was such a blast I couldn't stop.
Check out the bottom of the page for a great matching necklace.

Step 1: Hammer the copper triangles using the ball peen side of the chasing hammer on the bench block. Hammer until the triangle is covered in reflective dents.

Step 2: Flatten the gold and silver rose bud beads using a rawhide or nylon hammer. Hammer the roses with the ball peen end of the chasing hammer to add texture.

Step 3: Using the piercing side of the tool create a hole at the tip of the copper triangle. Do this by placing the triangle under the tool and tightening the fly wheel until you feel it go through the metal. Also enlarge the existing hole at the other end of the triangle in the same way.

Step 4: Place a rivet through a gold rose a silver rose and the hole at the fat end of the triangle. The manufactured side of the rivet should be in the front of the earring. You may need to you a business card or similar component to slide the stack into place under the riveter. Once in place turn the fly wheel until you rivet is tight and you feel medium resistance.

Step 5: Using chain nose pliers, bend the petals of the gold rose up and bend the corners of the petals in.

Step 6: Attach the earwire to the top hole in the triangle.
