Vintage Bead Showcase: Vintage Lucite Hoop & Rings, Vintage Italian Seed Beads & More
Vintage Lucite Hoops & Rings: Lucite and plastic rings & hoops are the quintessential component if you like the mod or retro hoop. Made primarily by Best Plastics in Rhode Island in the 1960's-80's, these pieces were manufactured for companies such as Avon & Trifari who used them in layered style hoop earrings as well as pendants on necklaces. Our collection also contains some German and Far East made pieces in a lighter weight plastic than Lucite that are press-moulded.
Antique Italian Seed Beads: We stumbled upon these very old bricks of Italian seed bead hanks about 6 months ago. They are in the 'Christmas bead' style and feature loads of rainbow colors. Most likely made for the demands of the African trade, these Italian beauties will give you a whole color palette within 1 hank of beads. Most have tags & check out these pictures of the old paper bricks that we found them in.
Vintage Lucite Cabachons: These brightly colored, bold statements are great for instant gratification projects. Use epoxy and adhere these to magnets, set them in these great pewter fittings for instant pendants, or glue them on to some flat shell beads to create you own colorful custom components. Our line of vintage Lucite cabs is exclusive to us as it was part of our 40,000 lb lucite buy 5 years ago. Styles are limited & sell out fast.
1940's Japanese Jade Glass Carved Floral Pendants: These lovelies were found over 10 years ago by one of our 'vintage scouters' in a designer's overstock buy. We found boxes and boxes of them in their original packaging that was marked "Made in Japan". Small cardboard boxes were loaded with tissue-wrapped packages. Just the packaging alone in some of these finds is a design inspiration. These pressed glass pieces were made in the 1940's and created to look like real 'jade'. The press-moulded design (which is actually not 'carved glass': a term many will use) is a floral lovely garden motif. This is one of the few vintage finds we have in good amount of quantity - but hurry because they are limited as is all vintage and when they are gone, they're gone.
