Jewelry for the Holidays: Deck the Halls...and Yourself!
I love this time of year! The hustle and bustle of the holidays are electric. I know, its chaotic, frantic and stressful, too. But if you’re like me you thrive on that kind of thing. I have to tell you about some really fun jewelry I’ve stumbled across lately. Seems everyone has some festive finery to adorn themselves with. You should know about it!
Charms Galore
Take this eye-poppin’ bracelet, for instance. Could you possibly put more on there??? Whimsical and festive lampwork in Christmas candy colors, a collection of snowmen and a few other fun things are all tinkling together like a party on your wrist! This bracelet is so happy, joyful and all the things that make me smile this time of year.
Let's Talk About Earrings
Earrings are my thing. No matter what, I can’t leave the house without a pair of earrings on. So here’s a simple and sweet design that can be whipped up in a second! Ok, maybe 5 minutes, but still! A cheerful pair of holiday packages all wrapped up in multiple silver ribbons. Well, actually the silver is wire, but shiny like ribbon and it embellishes these packages, er… square glass beads perfectly. I love the simplicity.
Ho ho ho...Snow snow snow!
I know you’ve seen these before. But look at these little guys all lined up in a row. All made with white pearls and crystals. I have to say I love the square rondell mixed with the round rondell, and a 4mm cube as the top of the top hat. Really cute. Snowmen can be worn all year long, don’t you think?
Glowing Lobes
When I saw this charming pair of Christmas light earrings, I laughed and clapped my hands. I’ve seen some great holiday light beads in the past, but these really glow! Made of vintage stock, the owner of these couldn’t be tempted to part with them. I begged. She refused. I sulked. Now I’m on a quest to find little light beads like this to make my own pair. Know where I can find any?
Holiday Seeds
For all you seed bead weavers out there… I hear your cry! I’m getting e-mails asking for more posts about seed bead work, weaving and general info about stitches and cuts, etc. So here is something to whet your whistle. If you’ve never made these delightful stitched earrings, let me first say that they make up fairly quickly and they’ve got great detail to them, even though they’re small. You can wear them as a pendant as well as earrings.
Santa Himself
The first pair I stumbled across was this mini version of Santa. Complete with beard, cuffs and boots, this jolly elf is perfect in its simple design made in square stitch. Wear these and Santa can whisper in your ears to remind you to be good. :-)
The Jolly Elf Returns
I had to include this version of Santa, also, because I love the little white swags in the beard. What a creative way to portray all that white fluffy scruff! And get a load of those twinkling blue eyes! They appear to be woven with brick stitch and square stitch. This is a happy Santa up close and personal. Love it!
Sparkling Trees
Trees with tiny twinkle lights and a faceted Czech bead at the top makes for a fancy star. Christmas trees are so magical! This tiny brick stitch version embodies some of that magic. All they need now are some teensy presents to go underneath!
Stuff it!
Check out these bitty socks! Ready to be hung by the mantle… although I don’t know how much they’ll hold. Better hang them from your ears instead! These peyote pretties are simple and recognizable right away as holiday stockings. Full of cheer and whimsy!
Sweet enough to eat!
So small! These gingerbread men are tempting me to nibble on them! They’re looking at me. They’re daring me to take a bite. I could do it. Beads are that good, and these tiny tots would be delish. I swear, if you wore these every person at the mall would stop you to look and comment on them. They’re adorable!
A new years resolution
In 2010 I have a goal to share more information about seed beads… their care, and more. But lets enjoy the holidays first, shall we?
“My favorite holiday earrings? A pair of silver filigree circles on an earwire. I swear that during the year they just look like filigree, but during the holidays they magically turn into snowflakes! Brilliant!” ~Carol McKenna
