Personalized Jewelry for Mom
My Mom has this amazing ring that I’ve admired my whole life. It’s a Mother’s ring, and on it are 3 stones for each of her daughters birthstones: a purple amethyst stone for Debbie born in February, an amber topaz stone for Diana born in November, and a pink zircon stone for myself, born in October. It has always meant a lot to me that my Mom would wear a ring that represented her daughters, and it’s a reminder of how close we all are. It means even more to me now since one of my sisters has passed on. Someday I would love to be blessed with that ring.
Celebrating Mom
I can think of no other meaningful way to create a bracelet or necklace for Mom, other than to personalize it with her children’s names or birthstones. I found some really talented artists whose great jewelry showcase how fantastic this can be.
Stamped names
Karey from Lilly Ellen Designs (So oh my gosh!) created a fantastic chain-y charm bracelet with hand stamped names on round sterling discs. These sweet circles are simply jump-ringed onto a piece of loopy chain, and then embellished with a random wire wrapped pearl or bead. You know, you could even add a little crystal in a birthstone color to each name by attaching it onto the same jump-ring. This timeless design is part of a keepsake collection, and I can imagine a Mom wanting to wear this bracelet every day.
A profile version
When I saw this version I felt a tug at my heart. My own Mom once had a bracelet with these little silhouette charms on the, with all our family’s names on there. Its been dismantled, lost, broken and who knows what else over the last few decades, but I do have one charm with my Dad’s name on it that I have in my jewelry box. This new version of this bracelet in copper is modern, trendy and fun.
Family
Alison and Lauren from Chocolate Silver Designs created this Mommy medallion with all things important to a family stamped into it: Family, Faith, Laughter, Love and Life. I adore the multi-color beaded strand that holds it. They say that Mom’s are the ones that hold the family together. They organize family dinners, events, holidays, birthdays, gatherings and seem to know everything going on within the family. Mom’s are the center of a family. Anyone disagree?
The kids names
One of the greatest beads invented… sterling cubes with letters on them! We love these beads! You can literally spell out anything you wish to say and wear it, sort of like getting a tattoo, only not so permanent! And the beautiful thing about these bracelets is that you can have multiple strands for all your multiple kids!
Ultra personal!
Talk about designing jewelry that isn’t just about your kids….but it is your kids! This resin bracelet showcases pictures of a family, captured under resin so they’ll last forever. The unusual thing about this bracelet is that the images are attached to a flat mother of pearl bead, and then sealed with doming resin. There are also small findings you can buy where you place the picture in the bottom, and then pour the resin into the finding which is like a little container. Then you’ve got a metal frame around the picture. Very hip, modern and chic.
Framed!
Another version of the picture bead comes in this little framed variety. These are really tiny pictures frames that have small holes to make them into jewelry. You can insert whatever photo you wish in the frame. How sweet is it to be able to glance down at your sweet cherubic child whenever you wish? And for Mom and Grandmas… what bragging you can do with a wrist full of kidlets!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mom’s out there! And that includes Mom’s of doggies, etc. Once a parent, always a parent. No?
“The best Mother’s Day gift I ever received was this enormous macaroni that my daughter painted in Kindergarden. I strung it on a silver chain and wore it occasionally and my daughters delight would light up the sky! Recently I wore it to her college graduation and when she saw it she burst into happy tears. I’ll always keep it. It’s a treasure.” ~ Joanna Hurst, Mom and beader
