Lasting Love for Lucy
Necklace and Earrring Set
Designed by Ashley Bunting

Lucille Ball is a style icon. Immediately red lips shaped into a sassy 'O', red cropped curls, and white pearls come to mind. Her sense of humor and her love of play translated into her fashion choices. A huge fan of Miriam Haskell jewelry, Lucy helped bring attention to patte de verre (or glass), threaded or embroidery-style costume jewelry in vogue in the 1940's and 1950's war era.

Translating a 'look' or one's style into a piece of jewelry is always fun. Be inspired not only by the literalness of that look, but by the energy behind it. Ashley, a designer on our creative team here at The Beadin' Path was asked to create a piece of jewelry, taking a few key points into account: 1) The piece hadto be made with white beads, 2) It had to be reminiscent of Lucy's lovable style, and 3) It should be Haskell inspired with one of the planes being 3-dimensional vs. just a strung-only piece. And wow, Ashley rose to the occasion. This piece is the perfect personification of Lucille Ball and her epic Hollywood playful aesthetic.

Be inspired by one of your favorite icons. Or play with the look below...

The Necklace

Step1: Make the flower focal piece. Use eight carved white leaves, put each leaf on a head pin and turn a loop. Feed the eight leaf dangles onto a jump ring. Feed a 10mm white round onto a head pin. Feed the head pin through the jump ring (that has the leaves on it) and then feed the head pin down through the matte gold 8-petal daisy and turn a loop in the back.

Step 2: Cut two 2ft pieces of Flex Rite. Link three jump rings together. Crimp the two pieces of Flex Rite to the jump rings keeping the two pieces together and using one crimp bead. Stringing both pieces of Flex Rite through each bead and begin beading using this pattern. String 15 seed beads, a carved leaf, a seed bead, eight 9mm fluted rounds with a seed bead in between each one. Then feed the flower focal piece on and add another fluted round. Using just one of the Flex Rite stands string this pattern. One seed bead, a carved leaf, a seed bead, two fluted rounds, five 12mm rounds, and two more fluted rounds, all with seed beads in between them. String a seed bead, a carved leaf and another seed bead. On the other individual strand string this pattern. A seed bead, a carved leaf, a seed bead, a fluted round, a seed bead, three 10mm rounds, five 12mm rounds, three 10mm rounds and another fluted round all with seed beads in between them. String another seed bead, a carved leaf and another seed bead. Bring the two strands back together and repeat the pattern from the other side but replace the focal piece with a seed bead.

Step 3: Crimp the end of the necklace to a jump ring. Make a leaf dangle. Do this by feeding a carved leaf and a seed bead onto a head pin and make a closed wrapped loop. Feed the leaf dangle and a lobster claw clasp onto the jump ring.
